Sweet Melissa Sundays: Orange Scented Scones

Dessert for breakfast - is there anything better (or more indulgent)? I have a soft spot for any baking recipe that I can justify eating for breakfast. It ensures that I use up a recipe before it starts to go bad, and more importantly, it means I get to eat sugar for a breakfast. A total win-win.

As a result, I was really looking forward to this week's Sweet Melissa Sundays recipe, Orange-Scented Scones (chosen by Robin of Lady Craddock's Bakery). As a bonus, I had never made scones before.

These scones - with their buttery orange flavour and flaky texture - were a great introduction to the genre. They were very fast and easy to pull together, and for very little effort, yielded a ton of flavour. I loved these for breakfast with homemade strawberry-raspberry jam.

I recently found myself a part-time job for the school year, and I think these will come in handy now that I'll be working mornings four days a week. They're a perfect grab-and-go breakfast. A big thank you goes to Robin for giving me the incentive to make a baked good I've never tried before. I think this is a recipe I'll be experimenting with in the future. Please visit Robin's blog for the recipe.

WHOO another university student in the bunch. I agree. School is a major hassle and I love it when I can have a grab-and-go type breakfast especially because I normally don't even eat breakfast.

I agree with you these make a great treat for breakfast. I got to enjoy them for 2 of them anyways! They didn't last long in my house. I lov to eat scones with jam too. I put Apricot on mine and it was so good it melted in my mouth! I think Im going to go make these today!
I hope your job goes well!

Great looking scones! The pic with the jam is especially tasty looking. I really loved these, and will definitely be making them again. A perfect breakfast treat!

Hi Kaitlin!

How are you? Did you have a nice weekend? FANTASTIC job on your scones- they look absolutely scrumptious, especially shmeared with homemade strawberry-raspberry jam. Any chance you could share that recipe with me?- ever since we made the strawberry ruby-grapefruit preserves from SMS earlier in the summer I've been on a jam making kick... making the cinnamon peach version in Sweet Melissa, and some classic fresh apricot jam from a different cookbook. I'd love to try another (especially while the berries are still vibrant and sweet), so I'd really appreciate your recipe if it's not too much trouble!

Glad you had a positive first experience with scone baking :) Hope you're doing well, and I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Mmm those look lovely! I want one now with some tea!

Joy, thank you so much! Unfortunately I have a bit of bad news for you. The jam was homemade by my uncle, and he sells it at his farm, so I'm not sure if he'll give out the recipe. If I ever get my hands on it, I'll pass it on to you!
